Halfway through Cowes Week 2013, sees the crew of Clipper Marine B/one in 3rd place overall in the IRC Sportsboat class. Along with the Bavaria B/one, this years Sportsboat class includes Cork 1720, Hunter 707, Viper 6.40 & modified J80 boats.
Over the first weekend there was 20-25 knots of gusting wind and the B/one was surfing downwind at 16 knots. Conditions upwind were hard work, especially as the tide built to create some classic Solent "chop". Saturday saw the guys get a 3rd place and 6th on Sunday.
On Monday the wind conditions were lighter with a southerly force 3-4 wind, which slowly built in strength as the race progressed. Clipper Marine B/one came in 7th overall on handicap, which was a disappointing result given the effort put in!
There was no wind on Tuesday and unfortunately no racing. Whilst frustrating, it gave the crew the opportunity to rest their bodies after three days of intense racing. The guys also found time for a couple of Expresso Martini's!
