Azimut is part of the largest boat manufacturer in Europe, the Azimut-Benetti group, founded in 1969 by Paolo Vitelli. Originally an importer of prestige yachts, in 1974 Vitelli began his own line of Italian-built yachts, since then the Azimut Benetti group has beome one of the most successful boat manufacturers in the world.

Today the Azimut-Benetti group employs some 2,500 employees producing around 275 Azimut yachts per year from 38 to 116 feet in length. Azimut is considered a class leader in modern design and construction techniques. With two dedicated state of the art factories based in Avigliana, a 140,000 sq m site, designed for the production of the Azimut range from 38ft to 70ft and Viareggio the waterfront shipyard and 60 berth marina. The producing facility for the Motor yacht range from 75ft to 116ft.
